Brainwave Basics

What is brainwave entrainment? Well, first we need to define entrainment.

Entrainment is the process whereby two interacting oscillating systems, which have different periods when they function independently, assume the same period. The two oscillators may fall into synchrony, but other phase relationships are also possible.

Think of a holding a tuning fork that is tuned to the frequency of a G note. Strike the tuning fork and place it near a guitar and you will notice that the G string on the guitar starts to vibrate! It has entrained on the tuning forks frequency.

How does this have anything to do with the brain?

It actually has a lot to do with the brain when you realize that the brain is pulsing with electrical impulses. This electrical activity can be measured with a piece of equipment called an electroencephalogram (EEG), which measures the frequency of the electrical current.

This frequency or speed of the brainwaves is measured in Hertz (Hz).

Now here is the really cool part – the predominant frequency that your brain is resonating with at any particular moment can be associated with your state of mind. This means that your state of mind, for example relaxed, frightened, or sleepy can be “seen” in your brainwave frequencies at that moment.

These frequencies and associated states have been studied for a long time and have been categorized into 4 broad categories.

Beta Waves – 13Hz to 20Hz. Beta waves are associated with normal waking consciousness. They are present when you are focused on activities in the outside world. However, too much beta can make one feel stressed out.

Alpha Waves – 8Hz to 12Hz. Alpha waves are likened to a light meditation. They are prevalent when you daydream. They will become stronger when your eyes are closed. An excellent state to be in to program your mind.

Theta Waves – 4Hz to 7Hz. Theta waves occur during heightened states of creativity and are found with a deep meditative state. Seek theta to access unconscious material, or to reveal insights and creative ideas.

Delta Waves – .5Hz to 3Hz. Delta waves are found in a deep sleep state or unconsciousness. Also, delta waves are common in very deep meditation. To stay conscious during delta takes practice.

Yogis and Shamans spend years practicing meditation techniques to learn to induce deep states of meditation. The main techniques they have used to be able to achieve these deep states of mind is spending time in dedicated practice … hours of practice every day! They work diligently quieting their mind and coaxing their brain into the different states.

In today’s world few people can tell their wives and children that they are going to sit and meditate for three hours, so please be quiet!

Thank goodness we can all experience the amazing benefits of brainwave entrainment by using specialized audio programs. These amazing audio programs will enable you to achieve these same states in a just few sessions.

Here at HealingProducts.com we offer a wide variety of programs that include these specialized audios to help you attain these amazing states of mind.

Here are three of my personal favorites:

Into the Void – A deep theta level meditation experience. This audio will synchronize your brainwaves with the deep meditative theta state!

Meditation Basics

So now you have decided to start regularly practicing meditation. Great, but where should you start?

Let’s go over the basics.

Breathing

There are many different breathing techniques, but slow, deep focused breathing is always appropriate. Try and keep your tongue lightly touching the roof of your mouth. This is from the ancient art of Qigong. Doing this completes your body’s energy channel.

Breath is extremely powerful and many books have been written on the subject. But for our purposes, just remember slow, deep breaths.

Posture

Should you sit, lie down or contort into a lotus position? Don’t worry, there is no need to twist your body into awkward positions. The main principle is to be in a comfortable position that is conducive to concentration and focus. This may be while sitting cross-legged or in a chair with both feet on the ground. One thing to remember is to keep your back straight but not tight or tense.

You can also lie down if sitting is uncomfortable, but this position often makes it too easy to fall asleep for most.

Hand Position

There are many hand positions. Today I will cover a few of the most popular. Choose one that feels comfortable for you.

Position 1: Put one hand on each leg with the palms facing up. Lightly touch the thumb and middle finger together. A variation on this position is to not touch the thumb and middle finger. Just let your hands relax with the palms facing up.

Position 2: Put your hands in your lap with the tips of all fingers touching. Right thumb to left thumb, right index finger with left index finger and so on. This is my favorite.

Whatever position you choose, focus on the energy flowing through your hands.

The Mind

What should you do with your mind? Nothing! Simple, right? Yes it is simple but it isn’t easy.

When you meditate, it is your time to let go. Let go of expectations, let go of thought, just let go.

You will find that when you start meditating that you will have thoughts popping in and out of your head. That’s OK, just briefly acknowledge the thought and then release it.

Here’s an example. As you start your meditation, a thought pops in…”I need to remember to do the laundry” or “What should I have for dinner”. This is normal. Just acknowledge the thought, “Yes, I will remember”, “Dinner will come later” and move on.

I find it helpful to focus on my breath. Remember, slow, deep breaths.

Intention

Here is what I believe to be a very powerful technique to focus your meditations. Before you begin your meditation session come up with a short statement or affirmation.

An example would be, “I allow my body to relax fully while my mind stays alert.” Or “My body heals itself” or “Abundance flows freely throughout my life”.

Repeat your affirmation three times slowly and deliberately and then let it go and begin your meditation. You will be amazed at how your subconscious mind will grasp your intention and fulfill it.

You now have the basics of meditation and you can now start to reap the benefits. One last thing that I believe will help you keep to your meditation routine and also make it more power is brainwave altering audios.

You can get started today by checking out our Alpha Programming package at http://www.healingproducts.com/alphaprogramming.htm and next time we will go in depth about how these audios actually help guide you into a deep meditative state!

Mind Over Matter

Intrigue

What your body can do depends on what your mind can conceive. It’s all like a camera. Whatever the lens captures, the film prints. Don’t expect a photo of something that was not captured by the lens.

The body can only come up with a potential that the mind can imagine. The mind is designed as a command center, and the body serves as production department. When the mind is strong, the body will obey. When the mind is creative, the body will create accordingly.

When the reverse happens, inability sets in. When the mind is weak and overwhelmed, the body takes over and commands the mind. Thus, at the slightest hint of difficulty and pain, the body will give up and tell the mind it can do no more.

The mind can do nothing except agree with the spoiled body, and quit. For example, when you have chosen to exercise every morning, but when morning comes any excuse will do for not getting out of bed. If the mind is too weak to oppose the body, the mind will lose. From that abnormal scenario will flow an equally abnormal life. All issues in life will spread from that, and you will have a total wreck on your hands.

However, the mind can be strengthened by training it to make decisions the body will obey. If you adopt a life principle, a lifestyle, make sure everything you do is based on it. The mind decides what is right and the body is given practical things to do in relation to it.

Once the mind decides something the body is unwilling to do, a tug-of-war starts. What decides the outcome of this battle is how well the mind was trained.

Training of the mind comes to us in many ways. When you resist that high calorie dessert, you have given your mind a little more strength. When you do two more pushups than you normally do, you have given more power to your mind. When you push yourself out of bed in the morning and do your exercise program, your mind become the controller. You start getting what you want out of life.

One of the easiest ways to strengthen your mind and resolve is through meditation and brainwave training. Yet this too takes your mind to control the body to actually do the training. Luckily this training is easy to start and actually fun to do!

Next we will cover how regular meditation can be the key to becoming the master of your mind.

Be sure to check out our Alpha Programming course. Get it and start the beginning of a life where you are in control. Your brainwave training begins right NOW!
